Published: December 2011 This comprehensive review of dental radiography covers a historical summary, principles of x-radiation, x-ray tube mechanics, and radiation safety for the patient and clinicians. Also dental imaging terminology, guidelines for prescribing radiographs, intraoral placement techniques, descriptions of various radiographic surveys, and patient management techniques including how to control gagging—are reviewed in detail. The course discusses film processing, mounting, infection control, and common errors. Shadow casting is discussed, as well as how to bisect an angle to overcome image distortion. The Clark Shift and its relation to orthographic surveys is covered along with principles of digital radiographic systems, tomography, CT scanning, and cone beam computerized tomography. Legal ramifications of use of these technologies in the dental office and a glossary of radiographic terms are included. Suitable for all members of the dental team. |
